Research education in Cultural Anthropology at Uppsala University is part of the activities supported by the Faculty of Arts. The Faculty Board allocates the economic resources to different disciplines and research areas. In addition, there exists some external funding that could support PhD-studies as part of a direct collaboration with the Department of Cultural Anthropology & Ethnology. Such a collaboration is normally part of bigger research project led by a senior researcher at the department.

The curriculum is based coursework, seminar participation, fieldwork and thesis writing. The progression is monitored through study plans and follow-ups. Furthermore, the daily working environment at a PhD-student is central to the accomplishment of the PhD-studies. Each student gets access to a workplace, computer , telephone, copy machine as well as personnel/lunch room.
